Ranger service in Allschwil & Binningen
The Allschwil Forest in particular is a popular local recreation area for the municipalities of Allschwil and Binningen and the Basel conurbation. To alleviate the increasing pressure of use and resolve conflicts through mediation, the two municipalities are launching a pilot year for a ranger service. The aim of the pilot year is to establish a functioning service and thereby gain experience on how area management might look in the future. The ranger service is intended to engage with and inform visitors who are in the woods and countryside; for example, about the unique features of the Allschwil Forest, wildlife to look out for or rare plants, and the forest’s use for forestry purposes. They will explain the applicable rules and will also record any misconduct, calling for backup in the event of serious breaches. Once the rangers are out and about in the area, they will be recognisable by their uniforms and will be happy to be approached by visitors
The ranger team consists of three people, with the fourth position still vacant. All are trained rangers who have already gained many years of experience in the Wiese Landscape Park Ranger Service or the Baselland Nature Conservation Service. The entire team is very familiar with local conditions.
Starting on Sunday, 29 March 2026
On Sunday, 29 March, the ranger team will be in the area for the first time and will introduce themselves to the public with an information stand and guided tours. They will have lots of fascinating and interesting facts about the nature and local recreation area to share and will be happy to answer questions from young and old alike. A guided tour offers the chance to get to know the ranger team and their work in the area. The tour is free of charge; no booking is required.
The ranger team will be in the Allschwiler Forest in the morning and at Struttallme near the water tower in the afternoon. Free guided tours will be offered at 10.30 am and 3.00 pm. No booking is required.
